Welcome to Week 6. I hope the rain is coming at the right time for those who need it.
I had the great privilege to attend the Presentation Sisters Sesquicentenary in Wagga last Friday with Mrs Wright, Years 7 - 10 Year Captains and staff and students from St Mary’s.
The school and convent at Young were founded by the Presentation Sisters in 1886. The Presentation Sisters were invited from Ireland to Wagga due to the poverty and high level of social need in Wagga at the time. The presentation Founder, Nano Nagle, was famous for her work with the poor and the image of her carrying a lantern to visit those in need. There was a great quote at the liturgy that I think is still very relevant to the work of Catholic schools today:
“In our Presentation tradition, the light of the lantern has become a sacred symbol of going out to meet the needs of the world with presence, faith and action directed to serving the lost, the least and last.
In Nano’s time, the lantern became a sign of hope for those who saw it coming down the narrow, winding lane toward their home. And so, it is today that we continue to shine our lanterns into the dark places that need our attention, our love, our compassion and our care.”
Last Saturday night, Hennessy students attended the Hennessy Mass which is held each term. This mass is a great opportunity for students to participate in the mass and for us to develop ties with St Mary’s Parish. Thank you to Mrs Wright for her organisation and for running the youth group after mass. Numbers in the young group are increasing, which is another great way to reach out to young people to deepen their faith.
On Tuesday we began enrolment interviews for Year 7, 2025. So far our numbers are looking very healthy. If you know anyone interested in enrolment or a tour of Hennessy, please encourage them to contact the front office for an appointment and more information.
I try to walk around all classrooms when I get the chance, yesterday I visited most classrooms. Our classroom routines are being followed, giving students the consistency they need to learn. I am seeing engaged students being taught by professional and caring teachers. Our students are given not only the opportunity to learn a variety of subjects but also to be involved in a large range of extra-curricular activities. Today, Hospitality is hosting ‘Cafe Jerome’ which involves online ordering of either takeaway or food that can be eaten in the hospitality cafe with a Mexican influence. This cafe experience has been run in a very organised and professional manner. Students are also dressed in their pyjamas today to raise money for our CEO Sleepout - there are indeed many smiling faces today!
I hope everyone enjoys spending time with families and friends over the long weekend.

Last Saturday the College joined together with the St Mary’s Parish for our once a term Hennessy Parish Mass. The parish and College were extremely proud of the 25 students who came to represent Hennessy in the celebration. What made this gathering even more special was the active involvement of our students, who led various aspects of the mass including music, readings, and the offertory procession, among many other ministries. This event not only provided an opportunity for our students to represent the college but also allowed them to connect with their families and the broader community while practising their faith. As a Catholic community, spirituality and faith formation remain our primary focus, and events like these serve as a testament to our commitment to nurturing these values within our college community.
Last Friday we had the privilege of participating in the celebration of the Sesquicentenary (150 Years) of the Presentation Sisters in Wagga. Accompanied by St Mary's Primary School Captain and Vice Captains and our Year Level Captains marked this historic occasion. The day was filled with meaningful activities, including a liturgy, the planting of a symbolic tree, and the reception of a beautiful poem gifted by the Presentation Sisters. As a school deeply rooted in the charism of Nano Nagle, we are immensely proud to have been part of this event. We extend our gratitude to Kildare Catholic College for hosting such a memorable gathering and to St Mary's Primary School for generously providing transportation.
We extend our congratulations to our newly elected Year Level Captains for Year 7, Eli Terry, and Sierra Hampton. Their courage in stepping up in a new environment and contributing to the life of the College is commendable. Already our Year Level captain team have begun to make a difference by taking action on their suggestions, with new sports equipment now available from the House Leaders Office. I look forward to continuing to work alongside our Year Level Captains in addressing important issues and further enhancing our college community.
As we move into the colder months, students are encouraged to wear the appropriate jumpers and jackets for the season. Sports hoodies are only acceptable with the sports uniform and are not to be worn with the Year 12 jersey on a non sports day or with the formal uniform. A reminder about the procedure for parent notification for uniform infringement is directly through the PC Teacher or House leader email is preferred, however written notes are also accepted. Alternatively, the front office can be contacted. Please note a text message to your students phone for a uniform infringement is not accepted.
I hope that the long weekend provides all with much needed rest and safe travels for those who are journeying elsewhere!
My name is Kristin and I have been part of the CatholicCare Student and Family Counselling team since Week 6 in Term One this year.
I have worked in regional schools in NSW and SA as a Youth Worker and Program Counsellor for the past 6 years.
I am here to offer a safe space for students to pop in and have a chat about anything and everything.
You might find you need a check in or require some extra support around specific needs that have popped up. It is not always for the tough and challenging times; it can also be an opportunity to share the positive things happening for you.
Referring is as easy as hitting the link below.
Teachers and staff can help students to navigate the referral, I can also do this with you, so can your parents or if you feel confident, do this yourself!
Students under 14 years, will require parental consent. Students over 14 can simply hit the link and self-refer.

My working days at Hennessy are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We also have a telehealth counsellor available if that is preferred over face to face.
I can be reached via email at Kristin.morris@mccg.org.au or alternatively phone the school to speak with me.
I look forward to working with you throughout 2024!
Hey everyone and welcome back to the 2024 Leaders Lounge, this week brought to you by McAuley House Leaders, Sarah and Oliver - as well as Year 11 Vice Captains, Nic and Josh.
Last Saturday on the 1st of June, the Hennessy leadership team and students had the honour of running the Parish Mass. Many students shared readings and even some of our very own talented musicians performed in the band. After the mass finished, students were invited to attend the Youth Group for some pizza and activities run by Mrs Wright - to which our leaders were amazed by the turn out. We thank you all for your participation and hope to see you at our next Parish Mass.
We are also extremely excited and looking forward to Variety Night on Thursday night at 6pm, 27th of June. There will be various acts - ranging from music, dance and drama, from some of our very own talented students on display and we hope to see you all there to enjoy this very special opportunity.
Back on the 13th of May Hennessy competed in their annual athletics carnival. It was a wonderful day for the students to compete in various track and field events. Congratulations to all that participated on the day!
On the 21st of May, Hennessy held their annual Hennessy Day celebrations. The students participated in various activities throughout the day.
Parent teacher interviews for Year 12 are being held on the 6th of June, make sure you and your families come in to talk to your teachers.

McAuley House Leaders Sarah McDonald and Oliver Baker + Year 11 Vice Captains, Nic Canellis and Josh Cameron.
On Tuesday 4th June students attended the Rugby 7s. There was mixed success on the day with the year 7/8 boys team coming 2nd overall after winning all games in their pool they lost in the grand final. They will now progress to Canberra in term 3 to play for the state final.
The Year 9/10 boys came 5th overall. They had a tough pool winning 1 out of their 3 games.
The Year 11/12 boys team came 2nd overall winning 4 out of 5 games and they will also progress to Canberra for the state final.
This term in 9/10 Food Tech our unit of study has been 'Food For Special Occasions.' As part of our assessment task, students had to design, bake and decorate a cake for a particular occasion of their choosing. We had gender reveal cakes, a 1st birthday cake, anniversary cake and engagement cake.
Creativity abounded!
Hennessy Students Play at State of Origin
As part of the NSWRL RISE Program, Year 9 Hennessy students, Gus Forbutt, Harry Coddington, Kobe Owen, Hunter-Max Robinson, Jesse Thorp, Hamish Hunter, Michael Orr, Lewis Shea, Nick Bailey along with staff member Dale Prindable (RISE Strength and Conditioning coach) played in the curtain raiser before the State of Origin at Accor Stadium.
RISE is a program for rugby league players that are aspiring players that want to improve their skills on and off the field.
The boys represented RISE Group 9 North U15s. Players in this team are made up of a number of towns such as Young, Cootamundra, Temora, Gundagai, Tumut and Hadren/Boorowa and were successful in winning the game 40 - 4.
Australia's Biggest Morning Tea
Hennessy staff enjoyed many and varied treats last week to raise funds for the Cancer Council through Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. $ 741 was an outstanding amount to add to the success of our staff community joining together for such a worthy cause.
As part of the Year 11 Biology Course on respiratory systems, students conducted fish dissections to understand how different species breathe.
Through the dissection, students identified the key components of the fish's respiratory system, including gill arches, gill filaments, and blood vessels. They witnessed the importance of gill structure for gas exchange, where oxygen enters the bloodstream and carbon dioxide is expelled.
This practical activity enhanced students' scientific skills, such as precision, observation, and teamwork. By working in groups, they shared their findings and discussed the connections between the fish's respiratory system and classroom learning.
