Over the last fortnight I have witnessed the skill, confidence, determination and drive in our Year 11 students who applied for Student Leadership Positions within the College. The House Captains for each House were voted in with a new system and were announced last week.
It is my pleasure to announce the House Captains as follows:
Rice: Amelia Rowan and Caitlin Drum
McAuley: Sarah McDonald and Oliver Baker
Nagle: Camden Cummins and Dieter Dickinson
Gallagher: Fraser Johnson and Paul Barrett
They will join College Captains Jasmine Sullivan and James Payne in leading the College from Term 4.
Last week the College celebrated Father’s Day with Mass and a BBQ breakfast. It was lovely to be able to celebrate with all the special men in our lives and I would like to thank them for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend.
We are preparing for our final weeks with Year 11 students who will finish their courses at the end of this term. At the start of Term 4 they begin their Year 12 journey and we wish them well as they prepare for their exams.
We are also commencing the final fortnight with our Year 12 students. They will begin their HSC examinations at the beginning of Term 4. We know that these last few weeks of learning are critical to their success and we wish them all the best.
Finally, next week we say goodbye to Ms Donya Tabesh who will be leaving us to join her family interstate. We thank Ms Tabesh for her service to the College over the last three years. Donya is a kind-hearted, gentle person who always looks out for others and has been a much-valued member of our Hennessy community. We will miss her but we know that her move is a great opportunity for her to be closer to her family and to hone her teaching skills.
FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Subject Selections for Year 11 and 9/10 Electives for 2024
All students have made their selections for 2024 and we are currently in the process of interviewing students who have clashes in their choices. This process will be done over the next week and then we can set the lines for 2024.
Year 11 Preliminary Exams week 9/10
The Exam Timetable is available on google classroom. Students will only be required to be at school for their examinations but may access the library at other times if they need to stay at school. These are the first major exams for year 11 students so they need to ensure that they are looking after their wellbeing. Take the time to plan your day, plan for study, plan to get plenty of rest and ask teachers for help as they are your best resource.
Academic Concern - Chronicle
As of this term in an effort to increase awareness of how all students are working in all subjects we have added an Academic Concern template in COMPASS. This is for staff to report on any student who is not working to potential or is disrupting the learning of themselves or others in the class. Each entry will attract a -1 and if a student gets to -3 an email will be sent to parents and carers. The email is below:
“Dear Parents/Guardians
You are receiving this notification due to [Student's Name] being identified as not meeting academic expectations in one or more of their classes. As a College, we like to address concerns with prompt, open communication and are committed to providing the necessary support and resources to help [Student's Name].
We value your partnership and involvement in your child's education and appreciate your attention to this matter. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or additional information you would like to share.
This email is to start a discussion with your child about how they are going in their classes and also acts to keep parents informed. Classroom teachers will also continue to be in contact with parents if there is an issue in their class. Finally a -4 will result in an interview with myself, student and parents/carers with the aim of working out a plan for the student to achieve their best in all lessons.
Compass points in the academic concern template will be reset at the start of each term allowing for a fresh start.

Last week, I had the pleasure of accompanying the College CSYMA students to a Youth conference in Canberra called SHINE. They joined with other young leaders from across our archdiocesan who are leading students through their spiritual journeys. I would like to thank Miss Coffee for accompanying the students and allowing them the opportunity to grow as young leaders. We also had the pleasure of sharing a beautiful Mass and breakfast for our Father's Day celebrations at St Mary’s Parish, thank you to all those who attended.
Our Student Leaders are in the process of planning a range of activities for RUOK week, these have been designed for all students to be involved in, they have planned a range of activities for all students which commenced today with our very own Jack Murphy hosting the second "Rave in the Cave" music session during the breaks and next Thursday 14th September, they will be cooking hot chips for the students/staff of Hennessy for the cost of $3.50, students can pre-order via QKR as well as, there will be some available on the day. I would also like extend my gratitude to Mrs Janice Dunk for all the hard work and organisation that goes into the House Cup and recognising students’ achievements.
Congratulations to Mrs Maryann Schiller and the students/families of Nagle for a very successful Dine and Donate on Tuesday evening, from this evening they were able to prepare 68 meals for individuals in need in our community. Well done to all involved.
This week our year level captains have been running a range of activities for the junior students, congratulations to Year 8 & Year 9 who will play off in a final of Volleyball next week. Today, we are hosting a spelling bee, I look forward to seeing our champion spellers.

Yesterday, we hosted the Mass for Mary, which was a combined Mass with the students from Years 3 – 6 at St Mary’s Primary School. It was such a lovely Mass and so well received by the students. Following the Mass the Years 9 – 10 CSYMA Leaders coordinated a Confirmation Retreat with the support of Miss Jessica Buchanan for the Year 6 students. The day was so beautiful and engaging. A massive thank you to Miss Jessica Buchanan, Miss Emily Coffee and Mrs Mary Wright for the organisation of the CYSMA students this year.
The Leaders Lounge - Student Leadership Article
Welcome back to the leaders lounge article for Week 7 and 8! With the beginning of Spring we’ve been happy to see nice warmer weather. |
Hennessy has been super busy with plenty of dodgeball and capture the flag games, which have been heaps of fun, allowing everyone to get involved during PC and the breaks. Year 8 has also been busy, as they had their camp at the end of Week 7. They travelled to Borambola, where we have heard they had a great time. We also have plenty to look forward to in the next few weeks with a Music and Visual arts Presentation Night on Thursday week 8, where plenty of students will be able to display their amazing talents! We are super excited. Over the two weeks, the school has had plenty of university representatives and the ADF come to visit. This has allowed students from all years to win cool prizes but also have the opportunity to look into careers that might interest them for the future. On Monday Week 7, Year 12’s represented the school at the Netball Championships in Canberra, where despite the rainy cold conditions they came home with 2nd place, well done! Also in Week 7, the school held a lovely mass and bbq for Fathers Day. It was great to see so many kids and their dads join the school for the morning and celebrate with bacon and egg rolls. |
On Thursday, the 31st of August, Daffodil Day was celebrated at Hennessy which allowed students to wear a touch of yellow with their school uniform. There were tutu’s, ribbons and socks that all represented our support of life-saving research on cancer. As a school we were able to fundraise $400-$500 to go directly to Cancer Council Australia. Year 12 and Mrs McInerney have been busy over the past few weeks finalising graduation activities, including the songs being used in our year 12 mass, the crazy and exciting themes for dress ups and in school activities in the last week. Year 12 are very eager for these bittersweet and hectic last few weeks that are ahead. Our 2nd Rave in the Cave is taking place on Friday, week 8 during breaks 1 and 2. Due to the excessive support and feedback on our first Rave in the Cave, Jack is taking the stage once again to DJ this event, allowing students to come together, have some fun and celebrate the end of term 3. |
During week 7 and 8 we have had multiple house and year competitions that have resulted in Gallagher and Nagle being neck and neck for first place in the house cup. This has allowed for excelling determination to be shown through the volleyball competition during week 8. On Tuesday we witnessed year 7 vs year 8 volleyball. This excitement continued on Wednesday where year 9 and 10 went head to head to claim the break time volleyball winner title which will be determined during week 9. On Tuesday, Week 8, Nagle dine and donate took place, allowing students and parents to prepare themselves and others a meal of stir fry. Firstly, this allows the parents of students to not have to worry about dinner for one night but most importantly, provides people in need to receive a donated meal from our school. |
Kind Regards, Tay Butcher and Sophie Moloney |
On Tuesday 5th September staff, students and families came together to participate in the Nagle House Dine & Donate.
With the 19 students and families, it was an electric and positive atmosphere with plenty of laughs!
Year 9/10 Ag students are currently working on the Beef Cattle Industry in Australia.
They have been very fortunate to have Hope and Honey join them recently in the ag plot. Hope is a 3 year old angus and Honey is a 6 month old angus charolais cross.
Students are also curently caring for 3 cross bred lambs, which will compete at the Bribbaree Show, Saturday 30th October in the Hoof and Hook competition.
A big thank you to Michael and Lorraine Schiller for donating the lambs.
The Year 11 HSC Hospitality class ventured across the road to Green Ivy to enjoy the beautiful sunshine this morning whilst studying. We focussed on the importance of industry standards for a range of espresso coffee and non-alcoholic beverages, in particular strength, taste, temperature and appearance of the drinks. We are pleased to report there were many happy customers!
One of our very own featured on the CECG Webinar Week on Microsoft Teams earlier this week. Emily Pratt shared her VET journey with Karen Ruppert, RTO Manager of CECG, highlighting the opportunities and experiences that are unique to VET, in particular her enrolment in early commencement Certificate II in Hospitality. Emily spoke about the opportunities that opened up after winning the 2022 VET in Schools Student of the Year for the Riverina Region and how she was asked to be on the opposite side of the panel in 2023. Emily has certainly done and continues to make Hennessy Catholic College proud.
College fees for Terms 1, 2 and 3 are now overdue. Should you have any queries in relation to your fees, please contact Nadine Woods, Business Manager.
Child development toys and activities are designed to stimulate and enhance a child’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. These toys provide opportunities for children to learn and grow through play. Throughout Term 3 the 9/10 Child Studies class designed and produced their own toys as part of their development unit. Great work girls!
