The Leaders Lounge - Student Leadership Article

Welcome back to the leaders lounge article for Week 7 and 8! With the beginning of Spring we’ve been happy to see nice warmer weather.

Hennessy has been super busy with plenty of dodgeball and capture the flag games, which have been heaps of fun, allowing everyone to get involved during PC and the breaks. Year 8 has also been busy, as they had their camp at the end of Week 7. They travelled to Borambola, where we have heard they had a great time.

We also have plenty to look forward to in the next few weeks with a Music and Visual arts Presentation Night on Thursday week 8, where plenty of students will be able to display their amazing talents! We are super excited.

Over the two weeks, the school has had plenty of university representatives and the ADF come to visit. This has allowed students from all years to win cool prizes but also have the opportunity to look into careers that might interest them for the future.

On Monday Week 7, Year 12’s represented the school at the Netball Championships in Canberra, where despite the rainy cold conditions they came home with 2nd place, well done! Also in Week 7, the school held a lovely mass and bbq for Fathers Day. It was great to see so many kids and their dads join the school for the morning and celebrate with bacon and egg rolls.

On Thursday, the 31st of August, Daffodil Day was celebrated at Hennessy which allowed students to wear a touch of yellow with their school uniform. There were tutu’s, ribbons and socks that all represented our support of life-saving research on cancer. As a school we were able to fundraise $400-$500 to go directly to Cancer Council Australia.

Year 12 and Mrs McInerney have been busy over the past few weeks finalising graduation activities, including the songs being used in our year 12 mass, the crazy and exciting themes for dress ups and in school activities in the last week. Year 12 are very eager for these bittersweet and hectic last few weeks that are ahead.

Our 2nd Rave in the Cave is taking place on Friday, week 8 during breaks 1 and 2. Due to the excessive support and feedback on our first Rave in the Cave, Jack is taking the stage once again to DJ this event, allowing students to come together, have some fun and celebrate the end of term 3.

During week 7 and 8 we have had multiple house and year competitions that have resulted in Gallagher and Nagle being neck and neck for first place in the house cup. This has allowed for excelling determination to be shown through the volleyball competition during week 8. On Tuesday we witnessed year 7 vs year 8 volleyball. This excitement continued on Wednesday where year 9 and 10 went head to head to claim the break time volleyball winner title which will be determined during week 9.

On Tuesday, Week 8, Nagle dine and donate took place, allowing students and parents to prepare themselves and others a meal of stir fry. Firstly, this allows the parents of students to not have to worry about dinner for one night but most importantly, provides people in need to receive a donated meal from our school.

Kind Regards,
