Welcome to Week 6! We celebrated Hennessy Day last Friday. The day began with a mass which was both meaningful and engaging for the students. The theme was the challenge of the gospel ‘I was hungry and you fed me, cold and you clothed me ...whenever you did this to the least of my friends, you did it to me’ (Matthew 25:36) Miss Doherty put a lot of effort into the planning of this mass to ensure that this was a memorable and special experience for everyone. It was lovely to see parents and parishioners also able to join us.Father Yoseph showcased his vocal skills and enthusiastically involved the students in singing. We even had a lamb make a brief appearance to highlight the gospel story! Thank you to Miss Doherty and everyone who assisted on the day.
Hennessy Day continued with a pyjama theme, various stalls were operated by the Houses during the break and the afternoon involved PC groups rotating through a variety of activities managed by Year 12 students. Overall PC winners were Rice 3 who were awarded a trophy at assembly on Monday. Days like this showcase the importance of community at Hennessy where students and staff spend time together in a relaxed and fun-filled environment.
Mr Damien Foley will be taking up a new teaching position at St Paul’s Walla Walla before the end of term. Mr Foley is a very talented musician and teacher who joined Hennessy in 2019 and has made a great contribution to the College during his time here and we wish him all the best in his new appointment. Advertising is underway for a new staff member.
We had a film crew here from Catholic Education yesterday to produce footage for their curriculum promotional material. Like many schools across the archdiocese, we are involved in professional learning which is based on evidence on how we can best teach students so that information is retained in their long term memory. All staff are involved in this training but we also have a group of five teachers who are doing more intensive training - Mrs Sharon Hibbert, Mrs Rayleigh Keith, Mr Ian Mergard, Mr Conor Quinn and Miss Jess Buchanan. These teachers were interviewed for the filming and Mrs Hibbert and Miss Buchanan’s lessons were also filmed. The crew commented on how well behaved and mature our students were.
Our annual Open Day will be held next Thursday from 1:30 - 4:00 pm. There will be the opportunity to visit classes, see displays, meet students and staff and be a part of the Hennessy experience. Please encourage anyone you know who would be interested in this event.
Please do not hesitate to contact me by email (kathy.holding@cg.catholic.edu.au) if you have any concerns or queries.

On Monday I spoke to the students about their appearance and uniform. I reminded the students that whilst the College has a fantastic facilities and a dedicated staff. The College’s greatest assets is the students and that the students reflect pride in themselves and the College by the care they take with their appearance. Students were made aware of the College’s expectations in relation to uniform and general appearance and that the correct wearing of the uniform is a condition of their enrolment at the College. The vast majority of students accepted this and students were looking very respectable.
If a student is unable to wear the correct uniform a note is required from home at the start of the day stating what part of the uniform is missing and when it will be able to be addressed. I appreciate as a father of teenagers, the Monday morning reveal of a missing tie, jumper or uniform left out in the rain. A note from home is all that is required
The College continues to work with students to educate them about the dangers of Vaping. As part of this we have limited their ability to use the toilets as a place to vape. As always the toilets are locked during class time and open before school, during the breaks and after school. Students need to organise themselves during breaks. If they need to go to the bathroom during class they need to collect a key from the front office and return it to the front office.
We have been unable to secure an immersion for this year. We have potentially locked in an immersion to Darwin in 2022 during the term 2 holidays. Hopefully more details to follow
A big thank you to Mrs. Brooke McCann who organised and took the year 7 Dancing Troupe to the Cowra Eisteddfod. The girls had a fantastic time and were just beaten into 2nd place by 2 points. A big thank you also to Elisabeth Hall and Hayley Grotegoed who gave up numerous lunchtimes to instruct the girls. All the girls involved were a credit to the College.
As always if you have any concerns please contact your child’s PC teacher, House leader or any member of the College’s Wellbeing Team
With thanks

Last Friday on the 21st of May, We celebrated our annual Hennessy Day. Staff and Students attended a Mass Held by Father Yoseph. This was particularly special as the mass included a lamb, students participated in large numbers through reading, singing and taking part in the homily. During break, PC’s sold food and drinks and the profit from those stalls went to St Vincent De Paul, we successfully raised $1,106.35. To finish the day off, students and staff participated in a wide range of activities such as trivia, sack races, water balloon tennis and much more! This day is always enjoyable and this year was no different in that all students and staff worked together to make the day memorable.
As well as this, we had two representatives from St Vincent De Paul come and chat to our junior RE classes about their involvement within the community, the programs for youth and where their funds are donated to, they also allowed students to participate in a range of different activities regarding homeless statistics. These guests also delivered a presentation to all students from years 7-12 about the impact and effect of homelessness on families and individuals. We are looking forward to the week ahead, with many more exciting things to come.

The 7/8 boys, went through to the last round game undefeated, went into semis had a nice win over Coolamon and straight into the grand final against Kildare.
The game was fast, defence was incredible and attack was looking very promising. Unfortunately the lack of tactical touch knowledge cost us but, the final score was 3-1 . Lachie Shea scoring the only try of the grand final.
Another highlight for the boys, they played Temora and it was evident that they needed some help, the boys allowed them to score, helped them with defence and had some great spirit. Temora thanked us. You may have also caught prime news last night they were on there and had a great interview.
The 7/8 girls were also fantastic, losing one round game, drawing another finishing in 3rd going into the semis against Kildare who they drew to, unfortunately Kildare kicked into another gear running away with the 6-0 lead, therefore the girls finished 3rd ? for the day. They played well, we had a few injuries and they were very determined.
?Jarryd Foster took players player for the boys - incredible young player, excellent ability to read play, work as a team and just did not show any signs of defeat.
?Grace Shea took players player for the girls - her determination, strong defence and never give up attitude was a great support for her team.

Well done to all our students on their engagement and involvement over the last few weeks.
Over the past few weeks, the Year 7 PDHPE classes have been working on their group compositions for their dance task. Students had to create a 90 second group task which incorporated, height, space, rhythm and creativity. They danced to a mixed version of several songs, the Year 7 students really demonstrated their moves. We then had a people’s choice dance off for the best group in Year 7 and the crowds choice was unanimous and the winners were; Lachlan Batinich, Bradley Keith, Lachlan Li and Liam Wiles. The boys created a master piece with so many moves that showed their skill. Congratulations boys!
We then moved to the individual dance section where we had so much talent, the final two constants were Lillee Davis and Kai Blom. The winner in a very tight win was Kai!
