Welcome to Week 8. It was lovely to join St Mary’s students and staff and many parishioners at the Presentation Mass last Tuesday. Venerable Nano Nagle is one of our College patrons and founder of the Presentation Sisters. The Presentation Sisters arrived in Young in 1886. Nano Nagle is a great example for Hennessy, and particularly Nagle House students, because of her strong faith, resilience, vision and kindness.

The College is a little quieter this week as our Year 10 cohort participates in Work Experience in various locations both locally and further afield. Work Experience is an excellent opportunity for students to ‘taste’ various careers and the world of work. Huge thanks to Mrs Leanne Parkman for coordinating this important opportunity and to Ms Kathryn Ryan for assisting her in ensuring that all placements are compliant with legal requirements.

Next Wednesday evening we will acknowledge student excellence in academic, sporting and community service areas for students from Years 7 - 11 at our annual Presentation Evening. Parents of students receiving an award should have been notified by now so they can attend this special evening with their sons and daughters.

Last night we held our final Community Council Meeting of the year. At this meeting, we worked through a process to transition our current Community Council to a School Community Council. All community councils, schools and P&F’s across the archdiocese are going through a similar transition process. This is a summary of the role of the new council:

1.1 The School Community Council (Council) provides a crucial point of connection between the school community and school leaders. The Council provides a framework for welcoming parents and other members of the school community to participate in school activities, to become actively involved in the life of the school and to support the mission of Catholic education in the school.

1.2 The Council is advisory in nature, though is able to make decisions in relation to the expenditure of money raised through Council led fundraising activities. While the Council does not have governance responsibility or decision-making authority in relation to the school more broadly, the Council provides an important forum for consultation, a means for members of the community to share their skills and talents for the common good, and a framework for the Principal to draw on the collective wisdom and insights of the parent cohort. The Council also provides invaluable support to the school through community-led activities.

1.3 The Council welcomes participation by all parents and other members of the school community.
Next year we will be seeking new members to join the council through an expression of interest. Meetings will now be held once a term rather than each month. There are also plans to hold at least one fundraising event and to form a working committee in this area. Please contact Mrs Natalie Turner (Council Chair) if you would like further information.

Hey everyone and once again welcome back to the 2024 Leadership teams leaders lounge, this week brought to you by the actual best house leaders Camden and Dieter representing Nagle.

With only 3 weeks left of term Hennessy students are doing their best with one last push as reports come out and end of year tasks are due.

This week our school has been small as we have all been missing year 10 whilst they’re on work experience. Year 10 have been exploring the world and all careers that wait for them from adventures at Taronga Zoo to hospitals, teaching and trades. We wish them the best of luck this week and hope they all enjoy a week full of great observing and learning.

To celebrate the end of year, this Friday the 1st of December Year 9 have an early start to the day as they go to Jamberoo for a day of fun and relaxation. Year 9, have fun, don’t forget to wear sunscreen and make sure to go on all the scary rides!

Additionally this Monday the 27th recipients of the William Rubensohn Scholarship were lucky enough to meet with 2 representatives of the foundation and talk about how they use their scholarships to better their schooling. Students were able to learn about the foundation, other recipients and schools of the scholarship as well as ways to use this to their advantage, progressing their schooling and always striving for their best. A huge thankyou to both Cherry and Jack who came to visit, the students were very appreciative of your visit and your knowledge.

Next week on Tuesday the 5th Hennessy students will have a whole school assembly where we celebrate the end of year as well as many achievements from hard working students throughout the year. Mrs Holding, Mrs Wright and Mrs McInerney are all extremely impressed with students as this assembly we will be giving out more silver awards than ever before! Congrats Hennessy keep pushing for the goods, proud of you all!

Finally, this weekend Hennessy is combining again with St Marys to maintain their winning float trophy in the Cherry Festival. Thank you in advance to students who are helping decorate the bus this Friday afternoon as well as everyone who is coming on the float this weekend. Our theme this year is ‘Everything Stonefruit’ so get prepared for an amazing, creative float filled with many loud singing voices.

On the PC side of school last week on the 21st of November, Nagle house (the best house) had their feast day to commemorate venerable Nano Nagle, the person our house bases their ideologies and mission off. To celebrate her, during SWS time the house had a brief meeting, talking about Nano Nagle and her achievements, endeavours and virtues before embarking on a Nagle themed scavenger hunt. It was great to see all the PCs working together, finding clues and objects which eventually led them to their final challenge of finding Dieter (spoiler - he was in the cardboard bin).

This same day all year 9s and 10s combined with students of St Marys to celebrate with a joint Mass also commemorating Nano Nagle and the presentation sisters. Thank you to Father Jiss for running the Mass, as always it was a beautiful service enjoyed by all.

Finally we would like to congratulate all of Hennessy as outstanding amounts of points have been given out lately, keep up the amazing work and strive to get as many as you can in the last few weeks! Congratulations to the leading PCs G1, N4 and N5 (good to see 2 Nagles!) you guys have all been working incredibly hard this year and it has not gone unnoticed!

Students were engineers and had to design and create a scale model of a building that could withstand a significant earthquake.

The scale model must:

• be quick to build
• have a minimum height of 45 cm
• has a maximum base of 30 cm x 30 cm
• remains standing through a 10-second earthquake
• be constructed from the materials supplied by your teacher
• costs $60 or less to build

Using the following materials only to build the model:

spaghetti ($3 per spaghetti)

Blu Tack ($10 per stick)

scissors (only for cutting)

30 cm ruler (only for measuring)

Celebrating bringing new life into their class work by handling the new baby chickens they have hatched and picking some of the many vegetables at the Ag plot. 

Congratulations to Mischa Boxsell for her artwork as it was highly commended at the UpStart Cowra Gallery Exhibition. 

A big congratulations to year 12 2024 student Lillian Williams who won first prize. 

Upstart is a Student Exhibition and Art Wards for stages 5 and 6.  The exhibition is up till the 10/12/23.  All works were Judged by Heidi Windeisen.

O Rejoice Young Man in thy Youth delves into the mental and physical realities of the Vietnam War. It showcases the relentless impact war can have upon veterans and the long lasting memories that become imprinted and remain with them permanently.
