Students were engineers and had to design and create a scale model of a building that could withstand a significant earthquake.

The scale model must:

• be quick to build
• have a minimum height of 45 cm
• has a maximum base of 30 cm x 30 cm
• remains standing through a 10-second earthquake
• be constructed from the materials supplied by your teacher
• costs $60 or less to build

Using the following materials only to build the model:

spaghetti ($3 per spaghetti)

Blu Tack ($10 per stick)

scissors (only for cutting)

30 cm ruler (only for measuring)
