Welcome to the Week 8 newsletter. Last Sunday was the First Sunday of Advent and we recognised this at our Monday Assembly.
The Advent wreath serves as a spiritual compass on our journey in preparation for the nativity of our Lord. It symbolizes hope, peace, joy and love through its four candles, each representing a week leading up to the birth of Christ.
It was very disappointing to see the cancellation of the Cherry Festival Parade. Mrs Wright, Mrs Willis and Mrs McCann along with a band of enthusiastic students worked hard to use this year’s theme “Cherries and Harvest” to focus on the importance of pollinators in the environment. I am sure this entry would have been highly successful had not the heavy rain caused this cancellation!
We are busily preparing for the Annual Presentation Night. This is a very special opportunity to recognise students who excel academically, spiritually, on the sporting field and as active community members. The evening commences at 6:30 pm on Wednesday night.
I thought I would share next year’s term dates as ours are different from the state schools. Please note that there is no pupil-free day at the end of Term 1 due to the Year 7 excursion but instead an extra day at the end of Term 4.

“Dear Jesus, you are the hope in our messy world. This Advent, help us slow down, listen to your voice, and focus on what’s really important. We place our hope in you as we prepare our hearts to celebrate your birth on Christmas. Amen.”
As the 2024 academic year draws to a close, we begin to reflect on our students’ year of learning and growth. Students have achieved success and realised improvement in their knowledge of concepts and skills across all Key Learning Areas. Some growth is measured as grades or scores but all student success is to be celebrated.
Year 12 2024 HSC Results and ATARs
In keeping with tradition, we will have a morning tea on that day to celebrate with our HSC students.

Presentation Night
The College Presentation Night will take place on Wednesday 11 December with an arrival time of 6:00 for a 6:30 start. The evening will recognise student achievement across a range of areas throughout the College. It promises to be a great celebration where the College community can join together for such an event.
As we approach the end of the academic year, it is essential to uphold our high expectations for behaviour and conduct within our school community. We would like to remind all students, staff, and parents of a few important guidelines to ensure a respectful and supportive environment as we wind down for the term.
We maintain a general hands-off policy among students, which promotes personal space and respect for one another. It is crucial that students continue to use kind words and refrain from joking around with name-calling. Such behaviour can often be misinterpreted, especially as we all feel the fatigue that comes with the end of the term. Let us work together to foster a positive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and respected.
Please remember that the sports uniform is only to be worn on Thursdays. If a student is in the incorrect uniform on any other day, they must provide a note explaining the situation. Should we notice a pattern of excessive notes regarding uniform discrepancies, we will follow up accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining our uniform standards.
We are excited to announce the launch of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program in conjunction with St Mary's Parish. This program welcomes individuals into the Catholic Church and will culminate in a ceremony during the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, 19th April. Candidates will have the opportunity to receive their sacraments, including baptism, holy communion, and confirmation.
We warmly invite all students and parents interested in participating to fill out the Google Form linked below. The program will include weekly meetings at the school, attendance at local parish mass, and the final ceremony. We look forward to embarking on this spiritual journey with you.
Hi All,
Welcome to this week's leadership lounge, brought to you by McAuley House Captains Angelic Sutherland and Bridie Sullivan.
I am an encouraging person. I aim to help everyone get involved in the upcoming year and ensure everyone enjoys their experience at Hennessey Catholic College. I love my sport, which has encouraged my future goals. I plan to pursue a career in PE teaching or physiotherapy. I can't wait to get to know each and every individual in McAuley- Angelic
Upcoming events for McAuley include our Vinnies food drive. We encourage donations that help those in need during this Christmas period. McAuley as a house is to bring in dinner food; this could be as simple as canned spaghetti. Your donations are appreciated.
Our PC door competition (Christmas-themed) is also coming up, and we can't wait to see McAuley's creative side shine through; this is due Friday, Week 9.
Keeping up the Christmas spirit, the leadership has come up with the idea of gifting candy canes to friends within our school community. Candy canes can be purchased and anonymously gifted to friends on Friday, week 9.
Thank you for taking the time to read this week's leadership lounge. Enjoy the weekend!!!

Year 7's creating posters to demonstrate their knowledge of wise use of earths resources through the practice of the 3R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Here are photos of Yr8.3 modelling layers of rock with fossils in between using different kinds bread, jam, lollies and sprinkles. They created sandwiches to symbolise different types and layers of rock and what it would look like when the ground bends and breaks. This is how we can age the ground beneath us and learn the earths history.

A select number of Hennessy students' artworks were entered into the Cowra Regional Art Gallery which showcases the artworks of regional students in years 9, 10, 11, and 12. School student works were gathered from Blayney High School, Boorowa Central School, Cowra High School, Hennessy Catholic College, Holman Place School Cowra, James Sheahan Catholic High School Orange, The Henry Lawson High School Grenfell and St Raphael’s Catholic School Cowra. A practicing artist judged the works and first place for Year 12 was Lily Basham, with a highly commended going to Mischa Boxsell. Lily Boda was placed first for the Painting award, April Dickinson first in mixed media, and Shatika Downey first in Ceramics. Works are on display at Cowra Regional Gallery till 8/12/2024.

“Just The Two of Us” encapsulates the loneliness of the human condition and the solace found within the small things in life.
Highly Commended in Year 12- Mischa Boxsel
Memories are the foundational elements that configure and shape our identities; however, it is a universal misconception that the ‘awe principle’-- the idea that only grand, unreachable moments are worthy of reverence and that only unorthodox moments are reserved for the extraordinary. In my work, I challenge this concept by turning our collective gaze inward, towards the intimate, transparent, and frequently overlooked moments that define who we are. I explore passages of my identity through the lens of my mundane life in rich, warm, and enticing palettes to exude the beauty in which the moment exudes, each acrylic painting standing as a testament to the realisation; that by appreciating the small, we come to understand the whole, and in embracing the ordinary, we discover the extraordinary in ourselves. My work serves as an imminent reminder that our true essence is formed in the quiet, constant rhythm of reality and challenges the notion that rare, monumental events don’t just forge our identities, but the cumulative weight of everyday actions, and interactions.
First place in Ceramics - Shatika Downey
“Acceptance”, through its postmodern appropriation of Goya’s Etchings, The Prado Collection develops a new story/meaning to the audience. This work demonstrates how humans can struggle to “find our people” and belonging, as societal expectations influence how we should portray ourselves.
The storyline encompasses a human trying to fit into a world of monsters where at first she is scared to show her true self due to the fear of rejection, though in the end, she finds real friends where she no longer needs to hide behind a mask, an unrealistic facade.
First Place in Painting - Lily Boda
Title: Why does it hurt? (oil on Canvas)
"My Body of Work" explores the intense emotions and confusion of growing up and my transition to adolescence and the pressures of a rapidly changing world, where a deep longing for childhood innocence permeates. Yet, despite being forced to grow up, I'll always be that child; where fleeting innocence collides with the uncertainties of self-discovery.
Dom Moran
Dominic Moran’s work was not only admired but several adults stopped, revisited, and admired the conceptual underpinnings within the work.
