The Leaders Lounge - Student Leadership Article
Welcome back to the Leaders Lounge for Term 2! We hope everyone has had a lovely and restful school holiday and are excited to get back into the swing of things. The Leadership Team is really excited for all of the upcoming events and student involvement that is coming up this term. |
ANZAC Day services were held across the district with Hennessy students participating in marches, wreath layings, flag bearings and speeches in Boorowa, Grenfell, Harden, Murringo and Young. It was really good to see lots of students come and participate in commemorative services. Our College’s ANZAC Day service was held on the first day back of Term 2. We were privileged to have special guests the Hon. Steph Cooke, Mayor Margaret Roles and the members of the Veteran Motorcycle Club join us. We would like to thank Mr Mitchell for organising our service as well. Last Monday (1st May), Hennessy Catholic College held Cross Country and Colour Run. Despite the amount of rain over the weekend, this turned out to be a blast with a high number of students participating in both events The highlight of the day was by far the colour run! A lot of students wore a white or black t-shirt and participated in the three kilometre course, where at various points throughout the run our year 12 students would throw colour onto participating students. This event was also to raise money for the Year 12 charity CanAssist and it was great to see so many people support the event. There were many smiles and laughs. It was safe to say that many students went home with a face full of colour too. |
Friday 12th May (Week 3) will be the College’s Athletics Carnival. We are encouraging everyone to come decked out in their house colours (Nagle/Green, McAuley/Blue, Rice/Red and Gallagher/Fluro Yellow). We are encouraging everyone to get involved in the events and gain points for their house too! Hennessy Day is also fast approaching, being held on the 18th May. As voted by the students, the dress up theme for this year’s Hennessy Day is to come dressed up as something beginning with the letter of your first name! Hennessy Day is always tonnes of fun with the Leadership Team and Year 12 cohort planning the activities for the day already. As part of Youth Week, Hilltops Shire Council Youth Officer, Anna Dreverman organised for Financial Advisor, Alishia Carswell, to visit high schools in the Hilltops region to discuss financial literacy and issues relevant to young people. Students loved participating in this workshop and learning more from Alishia. We would also like to thank the Hilltops Council for this amazing opportunity for the students. |
In House Cup news, we are really excited that Gallagher has hit the term running, coming back from last place to second on the fresh start of term. Though Nagle is still leading, it will be highly contested especially with Cross Country, Athletics Carnival and Hennessy Day points still to come. As always we encourage all students to come and chat with the Leadership Team with their questions, concerns, comments or ideas. |
