Principal's Report

Welcome to Week 6. I am sure everyone is becoming a little frustrated by the wet weather. Students continue to be unable to use the grassed areas at school and our outdoor activities for Social Justice Week had to be cancelled due to the wet surfaces. We are fortunate to have quite a few covered areas where students can go for breaks on wet days.

Last week 19 applicants for the Student Leadership Team gave their speeches to Years 7 - 11 and the staff followed by voting. Each of these young men and women gave sincere and thoughtful speeches and were fine examples of confidence, commitment and leadership for the rest of the school. The voting was very difficult because of the high standard of all the candidates. Congratulations to the 2022/2023 Student Leadership Team:

The College encourages recognition and participation in a range of social justice events and activities. This week McAuley House is organising a Social Justice Week with a food drive for the Young Food Hall. Week 8 will be our RUOK Week which will have students involved in a variety of activities focusing on mental health including PC activities and competitions, lunchtime yoga, meditation and movie sessions and a lunch specials day organised by the student leadership team. Proceeds from the lunch sales will go to Vinnies.

We have been very fortunate to be informed by Steph Cooke of our successful funding application through the NSW Children and Young People Wellbeing Recovery initiative. Our funding is to support the presentation of the Man Cave Program to students, staff and parents. Man Cave has a vision to “create a world in which every man has healthy relationships, contributes to his community and reaches his full potential”. Their mission is to “empower boys to become great men by providing them and their communities with impactful programs, role models and resources.” This video  link tells of their stories and resources https://themancave.life/

Year 9 boys will be involved in three full-day sessions commencing this term with the final session held early next year. The parent information evening will be held live on September 14 in the College Hall and all Hennessy families are welcome as well as the wider Young and surrounding communities.

Another parent session to consider is the Clearing the Air vaping presentation which will be held online on September 6. This session will present the facts and dangers of vaping and is highly recommended for all families.

Details of how to be a part of both parent sessions are in this newsletter, on Compass and on our social media.
