Wellbeing @ Hennessy

I have enjoyed meeting many families over the past three weeks, although by phone or online due to current COVID guidelines, and encourage you to continue communicating with the school to support your student. A reminder that your child’s Pastoral Care (PC) teacher is the first point of contact for any pastoral concerns. PC teachers have been developing working relationships with their students and are working hard to ensure that students are in the best place they can be for their learning.

The Uniform Policy has been well supported to start off the year. It has been excellent to see the response from the students and the pride in which they wear the Hennessy Catholic College Uniform. Thank you to all parents and students for continuing to support the policies of the school.

We have a number of events coming up in the next few weeks, please continue to check your Compass App to keep up to date with these. If you are having any troubles with accessing Compass, please do not hesitate to contact the front office.

School Photos are scheduled for Thursday, the 24th of February, students are reminded that full academic school uniform is required. Students who have Practical PE or sport that day are asked to bring their Sport uniform to change into. If you would like to order photos, please see the envelope your student has brought home. Your student must bring the envelope the day of the photos and hand it to the photographers. All students, regardless of whether or not photos are purchased, will be having their photo taken for identification purposes. A schedule has been posted on Compass.

Year 8 and 10 will be experiencing days with the presenters of Choicez on the 1st and 2nd of March. It is a great program where students and teachers are educated in the area of human sexuality and relationships.

As a school, we are passionate about investing into our school community. Together with Your Choicez, we will be hosting the BRAVE Parenting Web Event. Join us to hear David Kobler, a youth expert who with his wife Katie have spoken to over 300,000 teens, parents and teachers about big topics like sex, consent, pornography and sexting. They have worked with our school over many years with both our year 10 and year 8 students. David will discuss the impact young people face growing up in a hypersexualised society and the incredible opportunity you have in helping shape your child to have a healthy understanding of sex, dating and relationships. A Webinar will be held on Tuesday the 1st of March at 6.30pm for parents. Click here to register or use the link in the Compass App.

This year we will be celebrating Ash Wednesday as an outdoor liturgy in our Houses in PC time. Symbolising the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday is a very important day in the church. On Ash Wednesday, we burn the palms from last year’s Palm Sunday. Jesus had to leave his comfort to find out what his life was about in the desert. There are many things that we might need to leave for a while, or to burn away, in our lives.

Blessings,

Mary Wright
