TERM 1 SUMMARY
The 5 period day appears to have been well received by students and classes, especially those in the afternoon have been more settled.
This term we farewell Mrs Odell and Mr Faught who are off to explore other ventures. We wish them all the best and thank them for their efforts with our students during their time at Hennessy. Thank you to Mrs Tolfree who assisted in the last two weeks in Mr Chifley’s absence.
Some staff have had to take extended leave due to personal reasons and I thank other staff who have assisted during this time to ensure quality lessons have been set.
There will be some timetable changes for Term 2 (including room and lesson changes) so students need to refresh their Compass browser the day before school starts.
AFTERNOON STUDY CHANGES
From Term 2 onwards afternoon study will be held from 3.30-4.30 only. There will be no study week 1 term 2 or the last Thursday of term.
YEAR 12 ONLY PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Save the date – this will be on Thursday 23rd May from 3.30-6.30pm. Semester 1 reports will have been sent home by then and this will be the last chance for Year 12 students and parents to get feedback in this format.
NAPLAN CATCH UP
Many Year 11 students who have not reached the Band 8 required in Reading, Writing or Numeracy have attempted to reach this goal. Updated lists will be available early next term and those students asked if they wish to have a further attempt this year as only two attempts are permitted each year. This is optional but strongly advised as they cannot be awarded the Higher School Certificate without (although they will get their RoSA).
ASSESSMENT AND LEARNING HANDBOOKS
These are available on the College website and Hennessy Student Drive under Assessment and forms. It is vital all students are aware of policies relating to assessment. This especially relates to:
- Illness/Misadventure
- Procedures when absent
- Extensions
- Appeals
- Penalties for not following the correct procedure.
Students not following the correct procedures may find that they have incurred a penalty of the loss of all marks for a task or a Warning Letter. These have been posted to Compass several times as well as listed on classroom House pages. If in any doubt, students should always see their class teacher first and before tasks are due to ensure they are aware of what is permissible. However, I must approve all extensions, Illness/Misadventure applications and Appeals. The protocols and procedures are to ensure equity for all students.
STUDENTS RETURN
A reminder students return Tuesday 30th April (Day 2) in full winter uniform. On that day there will be an ANZAC service and Year 10 and 12 will be attending the Careers Expo at Young High School. Information about this will be on Compass prior to classes recommencing.
Have a joyous Easter.
