This term our Year 8 Tech classes have been using 3D Computer Aided Design software - Sketchup for Schools.  The students goal was to design a house and a car. Initial thoughts for cars were draught's on paper first and then created in Sketchup. Once designs were nearing completion Students used Virtual Reality (VR) to hop in their car and walk around inside their house, this permitted students to see any design issues and then improve on them. The cars were then printed with a 3D printer and a trailer was fitted to attach a spherical robot so as to power the car. Students then constructed a race track so that they could test out their car design. Autonomous operation was also discussed on how they could code their car to operate without their direct input.

The students were ecstatic to see their designs come to life.  Congratulations Year 8.
