TRIAL EXAMINATIONS
Well done Year 12 – probably the best we have ever had for attendance, being calm and collected and just taking each day as it comes.
Next week from Thursday onwards (due to paper security) you’ll start getting feedback. It’s important that you listen to what is being said, read any feedback sheets and work on a strategy to improve. I suspect that exam skills need refining as well as more study on the content for most students – all of this is fixable and now the majority of assessments are over (only major works to go), you have time to finish off course content and hone exam skills.
Now is not the time to slacken off as the greatest gain is usually between Trials and HSC where students can just focus on this area.
We will also need to go through Confirmation of Entries for the last time – this will be on Compass for next week and bring a red pen with you. Students need to ensure they can log onto Students Online and will need to change their school email to a personal one before the end of 2020. They should also ensure that their mobile phone number is correct.
YEAR 11 SELECTIONS 2021
The lines are out after a very challenging process. Usually we would have had the Parent Information Night and Subject market but due to COVID this wasn’t possible. I am currently meeting with each student to go through their programs of study to ensure they have a suitable pattern of subjects and to explore options for those that have clashes. The Year 10 students are to be commended for their maturity, patience and willingness to problem solve, which is appreciated. I still need to see a few more and will update Compass with names as a reminder each day.
However we still have the rest of this year and the first 3 weeks of next year as well before students get ‘locked’ into a pattern of study for Yr 11.
YEAR 11 EXAMINATIONS
The draft timetable is ready and has been posted to students for checking. Students only need to be at school:
- Morning exam only – they may leave afterwards
- Afternoon exam – they need only come for this exam
- Exams morning and afternoon – at school all day using the library for study.
However students may stay at school all day and study in the library, especially if they need to use the busses.
Students need to be aware that they need to be prepared for all exams by checking the https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/11-12/hsc/rules-and-processes/exam-equipment-list - this includes black pens, clear water bottles and I’d also recommend spare batteries for calculators. The full equipment list is subject specific.
Students need to also know that no mobile phone can be brought into the exam room – we recommend these stay in cars or at home as we cannot ensure they are secure if left outside the exam room, even if in bags. If they are at school all day they may choose to leave their bags in the library foyer.
