Mission & Ministry Report

The past two weeks have been nothing short of extraordinary at Hennessy. We witnessed the thrilling conclusion of the Soccer World Cup, with our Year 12s snatching victory from the Year 11s in a nail-biting final. Congratulations to all who took part, and a special thank you to Zabir Alam and the Student Leadership Team for their organisation and enthusiasm in bringing this event to life.

No sooner had the final whistle blown, than the action turned to the courts with the launch of the HENS Cup – netball at its finest! Each year level has taken to the challenge with passion, and already there have been both tears and celebrations. At this stage, it truly is anyone’s game. We thank Mackenzie Gale and the Student Leadership Team for spearheading this much-loved competition.

Next week, our Student Leadership Team will once again lead us in an important initiative: Body Image & Eating Disorders Awareness Week (BIEDAW) (1–7 September 2025).
This year’s theme is Unpacking the Why — raising awareness of how eating disorders develop and exploring how we can best support those affected.

As part of BIEDAW, we will hold a Mufti Day on Friday, 5 September. Students are encouraged to wear something blue and bring a gold coin donation to support the vital work of the Butterfly Foundation. Together, we can make a difference.

Alongside our celebrations, we must also address some challenges. We have seen an increase in Year 7 students’ issues with social media. As per school policy, Year 7 students are not permitted to have mobile phones at the College. Those who do bring phones must hand them in at the Front Office at the beginning of the day. Students who fail to do so will face further consequences. We remind families that the minimum age for most social media platforms is 13, and we strongly encourage parents to discuss with their children whether they are ready to manage the responsibility that comes with safe social media use.

Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome the Year 7 Class of 2026 – our graduating class of 2031 on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. We can’t wait to see the gifts and strengths you will bring to our Hennessy community.

Next week, we will also celebrate our Father’s Day Mass on Thursday morning. We warmly invite all the special men in our community to attend and, if possible, to complete the Google form to assist us in catering for our annual BBQ breakfast.

It has indeed been a fulfilling fortnight of faith, fun, and community and there is so much more to look forward to.
