Yr 12 Ancient History - Live Zoom with Dr Estelle Lazer: Conservation of Pompeii and Herculaneum
In preparation for the Trials exams and HSC, Yr 12 Ancient History students were granted the opportunity to participate in a live Zoom session with Dr Estelle Lazer, a leading forensic archaeologist with over 40 years of experience working at the ancient sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Dr Lazer shared expert insights into current conservation challenges, including environmental damage, tourism pressures, and the ethical display of human remains. She highlighted cutting-edge methods such as LiDAR, robot dogs, drones, and preventative conservation, as well as key initiatives like the Great Pompeii Project.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions about the use of new technologies and how these advances are transforming our understanding of the sites. The session provided meaningful, real-world context to support HSC syllabus content.
A warm thank you to Dr Lazer for sharing her time, knowledge, and passion for the ancient world.
