Mission & Ministry Report
Ash Wednesday
This week the College celebrated Ash Wednesday an important time in the Catholic Church as we begin Lent. Led by our Student Leadership Team and Mr Miller students were marked with crosses on their foreheads while the words were said "turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel". It is a reminder to us that living good and fulfilling lives is modelled by Jesus and that it is through his humility that we are also humbled. This also launched the 40 days of lent leading up to the celebration of the Easter Triduum where Jesus goes through his Passion, Death and Resurrection.
At this liturgy we also launched our Project Compassion Fundraiser, each week we focus on a different area both overseas and in Australia where Project Compassion and Caritas are making a difference to the lives of communities. The House Leaders and House Captains have been working on providing a stall each week to raise money. Please give generously to this very worthy cause.
Mobile Phones in Year 7 and Year 8
There have been several issues around mobile phones at the College. A reminder that Year 7 and Year 8 are to have NO MOBILE PHONES. Students who need to have mobile phones can drop them at the front office at the beginning of the day. Students in Year 7 and Year 8 are not to have phones in their bags during the school day.
ICT Permission Outstanding
There are still outstanding ICT Permission forms, students will continue to be restricted from online platforms and networks until both parents and students give acknowledgement through Insights.
Uniform Focus
As the weather cools down, a reminder that Sports Hoodies are not to be worn with the Academic uniform, it is a good idea to start preparing the winter uniform for students at around this time.
There are also ladies skirts which are becoming an inappropriate length, please note that skirts in the policy indicate that skirt lengths should be to the knee.
The Year 12 students will be running the Colour Run after the Cross Country. This funds raised will go to their charity Margaret House, a domestic violence shelter here in Young. Students must choose to either participate in the Cross Country or Colour Run event, or are able to do both (but they MUST participate in one). To participate in the Colour Run students must accept the invitation and pay the $8 cost for the event.
Year 9 Retreat
Year 9 Retreat will be held on the 28th of March. Notification has been sent to all parents on Compass. Students will be permitted to wear sports uniform. This meaningful day has been designed to help students strengthen connections with their peers, explore their personal faith journey, discern whether they would like to lead other students in their faith journey through the CSYMA program and participate in our community's pilgrimage of Hope.
