Welcome to Term 4. This term we welcome back Mrs. McInerney and Mrs. McGrath, both have returned after adding to the graduating class of 2037. Mrs McInerney returns to her role of Director of Students and we thank Mr Miller for acting in the role for two terms. Mrs McGrath by working on Wellbeing projects for term 4 and will return as the McAuley House Leader in 2020. Most students have returned in their Summer uniforms well presented. Boys are reminded to have their shirts tucked in and girls that their skirt should be just above the knee.
Wellbeing Concern: Over the past 2 weeks the College has become aware of in a dangerous fad that’s is appearing on social media. They call the game “ the hyperventilation challenge”, “the pass-out challenge,” or simply “the choking game.” This is, essentially, where teens reduce their air intake by breathing out whilst standing against a wall and then have a friend push against their chest to remove the remaining air to the point of unconsciousness and fainting. —The goal is to get a euphoric high and Internet fame by having it filmed and posted on social media. The dangers of this practice are apparent and there have been reported cases of brain damage and even deaths. Please have a conversation with your child about the dangers of this dangerous fad.
If students are found to be doing this at the College their parents will be contacted and ask to collect them.
If you have any concerns about cyber safety, social media concerns or any online concerns I recommend that you visit the eSafetyCommissioner website. www.esafety.gov.au
Movember: Hennessy College will again be taking part in Movember. Staff and Year 12 boys have been invited to participate. While we hope to raise some funds, raising awareness of men’s health issue is the greater goal. More details to follow.
As always if you have any concerns please feel free to contact myself or any member of the Wellbeing Team.
