Student Wellbeing Report

Another busy week at Hennessy College

Choicez workshops

On Monday and Tuesday Year 8 and Year 10 had their Choicez presentations. The presentations separated the students into male and females and presented current issue which our students are facing. Issue which included what is a healthy relationships, the dangers of pornography, sexting and Image Based Abuse amongstothers. I encourage you to speak with your son or daughter about the topics covered.

An issue that was covered is that as parents we have raised our children in a digital age but haven’t given them the tools to survive in it. It can be very difficult as a parent and teacher to deal with the issue that the new digital age brings. I have included the links to some wesites that maybe useful to you and your family.

Dine and Donate

Monday also saw McAuley House host Dine and Donate. Dine and Donate is a great community night that allows the students along with their parents to prepare several meals which are then donated to St Mary’s Parish and St. Vincent DePaul for those struggling in the local community. Families also have the opportunity to share a meal they have prepared with each other and other families in the House. Thank you to Ms Arnall for guiding McAuley House , the McAuley staff that attended and Ms Worner and the Hospo crew for their preparation and help on the evening. Over 50 meals were prepared and stored.

Driver Simulator

The Rotary Club have again volunteered their time to raise awareness with the year 10’s to the dangers of driving under the influence, driver distraction and speeding. These dangers have been addressed through the driver simulator. All students have spoken of the benefits of being involved in the program.

Leadership retreat

Last week we ventured to Gerringong with the future student leaders for their Leadership Retreat. It was a fantastic retreat direct by Mr Miller. The students had time to pause and reflect on what they thought leadership was. Students were also challenged by Fr. Tom and Mrs Hibbert how they could practically implement their leadership in ways that were practical and would benefit the entire Hennessy College community. Student also commented that they took time to pray when I was driving the bus. Thank you to the staff that attended.
